Studio Job - Tree Of Life

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

Tree of Life

Faena Forum

An European oak tap dancing on the tips of its roots on a massive marble plinth.

It’s trunk holds a crystal clad globe, endlessly spinning while (also here) wild roses slowly advance. There to endanger Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Meanwhile From the top, Vermeer’s hand pours fresh milk over a cowboy’s hat that covers a massive, fleshy brain that’s attached to a polychrome rainbow.

The Tree of Life is planted in front of the Faena Forum, an art center designed by Rem Koolhaas. Although it seems like the cultural gab between the architecture and the sculpture could not be larger, together they do show the diversity and expressions of the creative fields.
