A Tribute to Female Creativity

Commissioned by the Kroonenberg Groep, Studio Job created a five-meter-tall bronze artwork titled ‘Hers’, honoring the creativity and strength of women. This monumental sculpture, located in front of Q Residences in Buitenveldert, Amsterdam, symbolizes the female architect behind the building: Jeanne Gang, founder of Studio Gang.

The artwork features a cast bronze hand, modeled after the hand of Job Smeets’ partner and the mother of his children. The hand supports an illuminated letter Q, representing the building and its residents. The combination of polished and hand-painted bronze, frosted acrylic, steel, and LED highlights the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define Studio Job.
“Whose hand could I better choose than that of my partner? For me, this sculpture represents not only creation but also the vital role of women in the modern world,” says Job Smeets.

Location and Significance
‘Hers’ is installed on the Piet Oudolf-designed plaza between the two buildings of Q Residences: Qube and Quartz. This architecturally bold development is Studio Gang’s first European project and a new landmark in Amsterdam. The sculpture symbolizes connection—between residents, their environment, and the art itself.
“The sculpture exists for the building, and the building exists for its residents,” explains Job Smeets. “It’s a powerful statement to passersby about women, not only in relation to this building but also in positions of importance in our society.”

About Q Residences
Developed by the Kroonenberg Groep and designed by Jeanne Gang, Q Residences consists of two residential buildings and a spacious public plaza. With its iconic architecture and sustainable integration into the surrounding greenery, the project is a unique addition to Amsterdam. The design fosters connection and interaction, with art as its centerpiece.

Hers is part of a series of monumental bronze works by Studio Job, including ‘The Embrace’ in Dordrecht and ‘On The Shoulders of Giants’ in Weert. Together, these works reflect Studio Job’s artistic vision on societal and cultural themes.
