Studio Job - Bavaria Stripe

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

Bavaria Pattern

Based  on  Studio  Job’s  limited-edition  Bavaria  collection  (2008),  which  consisted  of  five  pieces  of  Indian  rosewood  furniture  inlaid

with  vivid  laser-cut  marquetry,  Bavaria  and  Bavaria  Stripe  were  developed  in  collaboration  with  the  Maharam  Design  Studio  for

upholstery  application.  Depicting  traditional  farmland  scenery  in  a  complex  woven  jacquard  construction,  this  complementary  pair

of  dense,  narrative  patterns  is  an  ode  to  rural  heritage.  Using  a  flattened  perspective,  Bavaria  presents  an  assemblage  of  livestock,

crops,  implements,  and  rural  transport,  while  Bavaria  Stripe  features  repeating  ribbons  of  farm  iconography—pitchforks,  apples,  split-rail

fences,  sheaths  of  wheat,  and  life-sized  horseflies  all  make  appearances.  Aided  by  a  highly  detailed,  fine  denier  cotton-and-polyester

construction,  Bavaria  and  Bavaria  Stripe  combine  intricate  illustrations  with  bouts  of  bright  color.
