Studio Job - The Big Cheese Award

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

The Big Cheese Award 2018

And the award goes to…

Sergio Herman

This autumn Studio Job created the Big Cheese Award, a spontaneously awarded accolade presented by founder Job Smeets to celebrate exceptional people in the field of excellence. To kick off it’s first year, Job Smeets presented the award to top chef and multi Michelin Star holding rock star, Serigo Herman. Sergio and Job first worked together back in 2010 when Job proposed a former military building in Antwerp to Sergio as the location for a new restaurant, which has since gone on to become one of the top restaurants of the Benelux earning two Michelin stars and an international reputation for culinary excellence.

“It’s an amazing privilege to be able to create an award, essentially what is the Studio Job award. It’s a personification of the winner in a present, one you give to someone you truly respect, this is not a corporate/marketing/cultural/government award. It’s not a typical award, it’s an award based on people that stand out and really deserve it. We created this bronze art piece in our atelier just for Sergio, and it means a lot to me to award it to him.”

On the evening of 26th November, during a dinner cooked and created by Sergio and hosted by Piet Hein Eek during Dutch Design Week, Job took to the centre of the table top to present Sergio with his award amongst the 200 guests.
