Studio Job - BlowUp Art The Hague

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

BlowUp Art The Hague Presents Dutch Design at Hofvijver:

A giant golden, traditional Dutch ‘Aardappel Pan’ (Potato Pan) floats in front of the Dutch parliament in The Hague, Netherlands. An icon of Job’s work and a cheeky nod to combining both high and low culture, often prevalent in his work.

“According to Job Smeets, subjects like Suske en Wiske, Gerrit Rietveld, Biedermeier, or Elvis Presley are all perfectly acceptable. Job makes no distinction between high or low culture, classicism, or modernism.”

BlowUp Art Den Haag presented a unique transformation of the historic Hofvijver into a lush garden filled with inflatable artworks. The temporary festival, staged on a floating pontoon, brought together some of the most iconic and playful creations by leading Dutch designers, including Studio Job.

BlowUp Art Den Haag is an annual open-air festival that celebrates the power of inflatables and Dutch Design, offering an innovative perspective on art and sustainability. The event is a significant contribution to the cultural activities during the renovation of the Binnenhof, organized by The Hague & Partners and curated by Mary Hessing.
